New PlayStation 3 Model Hits the FCC - Sony's New Hack-Proof PS3's?

Despite failing to keep their PlayStation Network secure, Sony may be be close to completely securing their PlayStation 3 console. Today, FCC filings have surfaced of a new PlayStation 3 model, which is utilizing the model numbers CECH-3001A/B. Earlier this year, we reported that Sony was planning the release of a new PS3 console which was immune to jailbreaking and custom firmware. Based on these recent FCC filings, speculation would say these recent models are likely this new generation of "hack proof" PS3 consoles. Very little is currently revealed by the FCC filings, but we'll bring you more information as it becomes available.

Today, a mysterious FCC filing by Sony revealed a new version of the Sony PlayStation 3 with the model numbers CECH-3001A/B. This appears to be a new generation of the PlayStation 3, given that the original PS3 and PS3 Slim were part of the CECH 2xxx series.

FCC filings reveal little about the device, other than the label location picture, above. Test reports do confirm the presence of Bluetooth and WiFi, as well as a hard disk drive.

The CECH-3001 PS3 model number has appeared online as early as December 2010. However, Sony has not provided any information about the new device, nor do we know how it will differ from older PS3 models.

This one is still developing. We’ll provide updates as we learn more.

DVD Drive Read Solution For XGD3 Beta Dash Consoles

Xbox 360 ConsoleDVD Drive Read Solution For XGD3 Beta Dash Consoles

Microsoft's latest beta dashboard program promises users a free copy of Halo Reach for testing the upcoming XGD3 format. The little trick that they did have up their sleeve though is flashing new firmwares to DVD drives. What this in turn did was update the DVD drive to be unhackable and not be able to be dumped. On top of that, the DVD key was encrypted and hidden away not being able to be accessed through traditional methods. Users who sacrificed their Phat Xboxes that once were flashed with an iXtreme firmware and Slims that were once hackable beforehand, there is a solution available to open the new firmware dump.

After numerous days of experimenting, a solution was finally found on Team-Xecuter that allows a dump of the new firmwares used alongside the XGD3 dashboards. Fortunately, it does not require any new hardware, just an older version of a common app - Jungleflasher. This will not work however if you flashed your DVD drive without a key.

Steps

1) Connect your DVD Drive to your computer as you normally would.
2) Download and extract Jungleflasher v0.1.67 to your computer.
3) Open up Jungleflasher.
4) Dump the firmware from the drive as you normally would.
5) Hit Yes to the Autoload prompt. You will be returned to the FirmwareTool32 tab.
6) Hit the 'Save Drive Key' button. Save the 'key.bin' file when prompted.
7) Reflash your drive with the iXtreme firmware if necessary.

WARNING: If you do decide to reflash your drive with your preferred iXtreme firmware, you do so at your own risk. There is no telling what else Microsoft may have up their sleeves.

Disk Swapper v1.1 Released – Multidisc Switcher for DashLaunch

We last posted news about DashLaunch back when it was still in beta proportions. Now, we visit it again when it’s on the other side of the stable fence. In case you don’t know, Disk Swapper is a multidisc switcher plugin by DashLaunch developer c0z himself. This version is compatible with the new 12625 dashboard. However, it is not hardcoded to work with any specific game or dashboard.
v1.1
- fixes export table look-up to be version less
v1.0
- first release
install
=======
-add to dash launch plugins
ie:
[Plugins]
plugin1 = Usb:\swap.xex
-place swap.xex on the path you specified above
-edit and place multi.ini on the root of a usb/hdd/memory unit
content partition (just like launch.ini)
-in some cases it seems the plugins were only enabled after running
the dash launch installer again, you may want to give this a try
or, wait for a much better solution from the folks at FreeStyle

Beta Dash Firmware Flashing & AP2.5 Update:

Flashes the following:
Slim LiteOn: PLDS DG-16D4S 0272
Phat BenQ: PBDS VAD6038 04421C
Phat LiteOn: PLDS DG-16D2S 02510C
Samsung drives are updated with files from $install_extender.xex which contains 4 patches: ms25p1f9, ms25p2f9, ms28p1f9, ms28p2f9. Each patch is 48.4 KB and makes a couple of KBs of changes in parts of the firmware.
HITACHIs are not being flashed.
A new AP25 challenge table
- 4 known games are in the table – all known language versions of AC:B, Fable III, NFS:HP and Halo Reach.
- These 4 games each have a new set of challenges so the current available patches will not work with a LT+ CFW.
- Call of Duty MW2 and Black Ops have been removed from the table so unpatched and patched backups should work with a LT+ CFW. Confirmation to follow.
AP2.5 is ignored on all Samsung, plus all Hitachi drives v59 and lower.
Theories are, they must have stock drives to test the new file system, so they make sure of it, and the latest firmware.  This will more than likely, remain as another AP measure, so that each time there is a system update, your drive will be flashed; maybe not (we hope).  So, hackers will have to continually work on CFWs, of they continue to use it.
IF anyone with a Hitachi is doing the Beta, and the Halo Reach Beta works, then we can rule out that the DVD drives HAVE to be  updated to read the new file system.   Your console ID, that you have to submit for the beta, will let them know what drive you’re supposed to have.  So, they could have ruled out all Hitachi users for now.  Still, this would be a huge PR issue if they can’t update Hitachi drives, and new games with XGD3 will not work, thus you’re stalled at using older formatted games.
