Pirate’s PS3 Water-Cooled Laptop/Portable Mod

NEWS FROM PS3HAX.NET

Well after 3 years of working on it, I am finally ready to unveil my second PS3 portable which I am titling “Pirate’s PS3 Water-cooled Portable/Laptop”. As the name suggests this is a water-cooled PS3 in a portable form, fully equipped with its own reservoir, pump and radiator.  This PS3 laptop is for sale, so pictures, videos, features and eBay link all the Read More button!

Features in this portable include:

  • Water cooled with easy accessible reservoir
  • HD: 720p/1080i screen (via HDMI)
  • 4x USB
  • 500 gb HDD
  • External PSU
  • Built in keyboard
  • Built in speakers with volume controls with 2.5mm headphone jack.
  • The stock PS3 was a 40gb SKU (there was no PS3 slim when I started the project).
  • Dimensions are 16.75”x13”x2.5” (16.75”x13”x3.5”with lid closed)
  • Weighs ~15lbs.
The case was all constructed from scratch. It features an aluminum base plate, and the rest of the material used was sintra/komatex. The case was routed via CNC machines with designs created in Adobe Illustrator.
The questions some of you may be asking why water-cool the PS3? The reason for water-cooling the system was to redesign the cooling to fit in a small case (which is significantly thinner than previous portable I made). Water-cooling the PS3 allowed me to get rid of the clunky heatsinks which was responsible for cooling stock PS3s. Only 4x40mm fans were used in cooling the entire system.
Another question I often get is why does a PS3 game/CD go backwards? That is because it was the only way to get the drive to fit inside the case without having to manually extend the PS3 bluray cable/ribbon.
I did not follow any tutorial when creating this, nor will I be providing one – it was done all for fun, and experimentation (why is why it took so long -.-). For those interested you can check out my work log of this project HERE. Also a shout out to the members at Overclock.net for helping me find many of the components, research and techniques I used to make this project possible. If you’re interested in tackling a project such as this feel free to ask on the forums and I will be more than glad to guide you in the right direction.
This PS3 Laptop/Portable is on sale at eBay, so if you’re interested, there’s a link below to the bidding. If you wish to buy it now, contact me through the forums (here) and we can talk from there :) . A percentage of the funds (minus costs) will proceed to relief efforts for the Joplin, Missouri tornado and rest will go to server/renovations to PS3Hax.net
Thanks for looking, let me know what you guys think :-)Click to enlarge the pictures.

Sony confirms PS4 development

Sony vice president and chief financial officer Masaru Kato has confirmed that there is a PS4 in development.
To quote:
For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life, but this is a platform business, so for the future platform – when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that – but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there.

We all know Sony always likes to contradict and deny it self, this is what Kaz Hirai said a while back:
“a near-future PS4 or next-generation home console is not something that we are even debating now”.
Don’t get all excited and sell your PS3, it is expected that the PS3 will have a ~10 year life span, so we should be good for a few more years :) . It will be interesting to see how the PS3 will preform against next gen consoles such as Wii 2 and “Xbox 720″ if they are released earlier than the PS3.
What do YOU expect from the PS4?

More On The XGD3 Dashboard Update, Write Solution

Xbox 360 Console
As the new Spring dashboard begins to roll out to Xbox users everywhere, news regarding the effects of the update, LT 2.0 and a write solution for Liteon 0225 Slim drives has arisen. The lead of Team-Xecuter, Xecuter, provided some information regarding the latest developments.
Here are some things of note so you have a clue of what’s coming:
  • After the update the drive fw is also updated with a new stock fw, rendering the drive unable to play backups (for now).
  • When the drives are flashed back again with LT fw the previous AP2.5 patched titles are no longer booting (expected and will be updated with new XBC and 0800)
  • It seems that the first update has only been sent to Liteon DG-16D2S and Liteon DG-16D4S drives (Unconfirmed)
  • The key location on phat models is now in a different area, so a new JF will be released to accommodate this change which was already anticipated in advance.
  • There has been EXTENSIVE progress with all the new AP2.5 challenges. New 0800 BENQ fw is almost ready.
  • There is a new XBC (Xbox Backup Creator) that has been designed alongside the new 0800 ripping fw – you’ll love it :)
  • There will be new LT fw’s for all of the new versions that have been released.
  • XGD3 progress is being made and there will be an update on this soon.
  • We have received unverified reports that after the update to a 9504 slim drive the write protect was enabled like the 0225 drives (Unconfirmed)
  • All the slim key read and slim write routines have changed also (again fully anticipated). Easily fixed with new JF
  • We will also confirm that we have a solution to all unlock all 0225 drives so you can write the firmware. This has been 100% verified and working and we are producing the addons as we speak and will have them available as soon as possible. We will release 2 versions, a kit for pro modders to offer as a service and also a DIY mod type device that users can install themselves. There is a LOT going on so we are working as fast as possible on all projects. There you have it. In short, as Microsoft drops this bombshell, Team-Xecuter and related parties drop this one. New firmwares, a 0225/0401 write solution, and new Jungleflasher, and XBC applications. As always, if you want to make it through this update with an unflagged/unbanned/working console as long as possible, UPGRADE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Personally, I have a Phat Xbox with a Liteon 94350C drive and I haven't received any update notices on the first day of updates. We'll keep you updated with any happening. Source: Team-Xecuter

e-Tool: Extract & Inject the DVD Key From Phat Liteon Drives Affected By The XGD3 Dash

With the public release of the XGD3 dashboards dawning upon us, you may think that you are royally screwed if you don't have a backup copy of your DVD key file. However, you're in luck as Electron^- has released an application that will extract the DVD key from the firmwares flashed by the XGD3 update. Not only that, e-Tool injects the dvd Key into the new firmwares in a ready to flash format.

Here's what Electron^- mentioned in his release post:
Each of you probably know that with the new dashboard beta, readers are re-flashed with a firmware Stock, and in this way, you can not read your backups.
For this reason, many of you, you will come across the following problem:
13142 after installing the update, if you re-flash fw on another player, you can not upgrade to version 13145, because the console that controls the fw on the same player is flashed from the previous update.
Trying to extract the FW from your player, you probably will have noticed that Jungle Flasher, does not recognize the new FW.
So now, how do you resolve this situation?
I created two programs that deal specifically, EXTRACT the key from the new Fw, Fw or Spoof a New Original Firmware if you already have the key formats. Bin (even that of jungle flasher is fine).

Electron^- mentioned that he is working to adding Liteon Slim and BenQ drive support to his application. You can grab the download in Unix and Windows flavors and the instructions from the source link below.
