michaelscz and S4W, two members from PS3ISO, have released (or discovered) fixes for 2 new releases which will now work on CFW 3.41/3.55. Again these are playable because the new updates were used with the old keys so the latest keys are still not known yet…and CFW still survives on luck for new titles ;)

QA Flagging Mode Tool (PKG) Released

A few days ago, courtesy of an anonymous source, we were pleased to bring users the remaining steps needed to enable QA mode on their consoles. However, at that time, it was still a difficult process and only intended for advanced users. Today, users will no longer have to worry about being technically inclined, in order to enable QA mode. Glevand, a developer on gitbrew, brings us an app that simplifies the entire QA process.

The process has been so simplified, that even the most novice of users will be able to enable the mode with ease. It's as simple as running the app and listening for a beep. If users hear the beep after running the app, then the QA process was successful. If users don't hear the beep, then they are being urged to dump their debug messages via udp_printf on Linux and send them to the developer. Once the messages have been received, the developer will examine them and work on a fix. It should also be noted, that the app has only been tested on 3.41 and 3.55 firmwares.

What we have tested on so far

* 3.55
* 3.41

o Run qa_flag.pkg if you hear a beep, it worked. If not dump your debug messages via udp_printf on linux and send to us to fix.

+ go to network settings (Do not enter it) and hit or hold

# L1+L2+L3+R1+R2+down on the d-pad

QA flagging is now done.

This does all the work for you as well. Also has Slynk’s 16 byte console specific code “tokenator” if i recall it’s name.

Update:

And a CFW/Other OS PUP (aka CFW/firmware) arrives, which is confirmed to be working with QA Flag, to quote:
Confirmed working with QA Auto Flag. Flash, Run, Reflash to your CFWs (kmeaw, waninkoko etc etc) adding support soon!

CobraUSB Decrypted Hex Dumps Released by Jaicrab

The other day, Jaicrab, famed Spanish developer, hinted that free CobraUSB functionality would be arriving soon. Today, we move a step forward towards that. Jaicrab released via his blog, two decrypted hex files, which he dumped from the CobraUSB 1.2 and 2.0. Jaicrab didn't explain if these hex files are ready to be flashed to a dongle or not. He simply stated "That is all. Enjoy". In any case, it seems we are getting extremely close to enjoying the powerful functionality of the CobraUSB dongle for free.

For those of you unfamiliar with the CobraUSB dongle, it carries some powerful features. In the latest 2.0 version, the dongle allows users to not only playback PSX ISO's, but also PS2 ISO's from their PS3's hard drive. Furthermore, the dongle allows users to play DVD and Blu-Ray ISO's from their hard drive as well.

I dont speak/read Spanish or anything... but these were just released onto Jaicrabs blog.

Official Firmware 3.66 Arrives

Eric Lempel, Vice President of Sony Network Entertainment, just announced on the official Sony blog, that a new firmware update is coming very soon. The proposed update will be version 3.66, but it doesn't appear to have any new ground breaking features. Eric stated that the new update will make PS3 game playback more stable. In addition, he went on to state that the network services have also been improved.

It is possible that the new update is actually a security update in response to the recent Quality Assurance mode hacks. However, it would seem hard to believe that Sony could respond this quickly. Regardless, we recommend that users do not update to version 3.66 if they intend to keep the ability to jailbreak/exploit their consoles.

Update: The firmware is now live and available for download.

A new PS3 system software update, v3.66, will be released soon. With this minor update, system stability during use of PS3 format software and network services has been improved.

QA Flag – Button Combination Sequence Released

Remember a few weeks ago Mathieulh released a video of the QA flagged PS3? To refresh your memories; the QA flag is the internal console flag used by Sony, it enables hidden options and removes restrictions for both retail and debug consoles alike. It is used for QA centers and the R&D Department (there are 2 levels of QA flags, Minimum and Advanced). In short it could lead to a complete open PS3…and yes all the CFW, homebrew and backup manager your little heart desires.

Well the method of how to “QA flag” your PS3 was never posted/revealed but since then plenty of hints have been given in attempts for the “scene”, and one of the first steps was to figure out the secret button combo. Well after weeks of people trying and moaning, the man behind the emulators – squarepusher 2 has released/posted information on exactly what that button combo was. Noobs do not try this – the guide below is still a work in progress and QA flag button combo is the icing on the cake.

How to QA Flag your PS3, the button combo:

  1. Be on 3.55 OFW (no rebug), download here.
  2. Move the PS3 cursor/select “Network Setting
  3. Punch the following button combo with your PS3 controller: L2 + L1 + R1 + R2 + L3 + D-pad Down
  4. Thats it, the “Edy Viewer”, “Debug Settings”, “Install Package” Menu will now appear.
Notes and disclaimers:
  • Install Package is useless and can’t install homebrew at the moment – only signed PKGs (and the first one in root of USB only).
This is not all that is needed to QA flag your PS3, but its a big start for the community – we still need all the pieces to fully QA flag the PS3 and its the scenes job to “figure out the rest”.

Jaicrab Announces Exciting New CFW + Free CobraUSB Functionality

Jaicrab, a well known Spanish developer, has announced a new custom firmware project that he has been working on. Now before gamers get too excited, they should expect that this new custom firmware will be based on 3.55 and will not allow the playback of 3.6x games. With that being stated, it appears Jaicrab has some exciting new features planned for his CFW.

One such feature, will be the ability to multitask applications. For example, if a user is playing a game they'd also be able to FTP into their system, if they so choose.

In addition, he plans to include CobraUSB functionality without the necessity of the costly dongle. The inclusion of free CobraUSB functionality does seem very plausible. Jaicrab recently published a block of hex code prefaced by "Greetings to the Cobra TEAM", which leads us to believe he has decrypted the official dongle.

Furthermore, he states that there will be a Startup Plugins Manager included in his CFW, but he didn't elaborate on it's functionality.

In the works:
Including:
- Startup Plugins Manager.
- Multi tasking apps/Apps running while doing something else.(For Example: FTP while playing)
- Payload load before entering XMB. Free Cobra Payload…. . .
Code:
Greetings to the Cobra TEAM.
