Today while checking out e3-tech.net I stumbled across a video they
uploaded the same day that Sony's official firmware 3.72 was released.
The video showcases the E3 Flasher successfully downgrading a PS3
running Sony's latest firmware v3.72 and therefore the ability to dual
boot between custom firmware and official.
From their website & other sources:

So despite previous speculation that the new firmware update was
targeting recent downgrade methods, we can safely say that the E3
Flasher is still a viable downgrade & dual boot tool. I for one
wonder if Sony could block this method with a firmware update or have we
finally found a way to have the best of both worlds?
